Be prepared and learn to spell.

August 5, 2011

This is not a sign you want to see tacked or slapped onto the front door of your business or home.  The reason why this particular sign is posted on this particular door is not the point today (although that is a good story).  What IS important is the idea that we should prepare the best we can for the unexpected.  Flashing back to the camp-outs of my youth, the Boy Scout Motto:  “Be Prepared” comes to mind.  The Boy Scouts define “Be Prepared” as a state of readiness in mind and body to do your duty.”  It is not much of a stretch to envision how applying this “Be Prepared” definition/model to your business life (and/or home life) would be a benefit when unforeseen events occur (because they will).  Mitigating the figurative and literal “Closed Today Due To Unforeseen Event” signs in our lives would in the words of Martha Stewart, “Be A Good Thing” professionally and personally.  Also, learning to spell (unforeseen in the sign below) is a good thing.
